Ankle is the place where the legs and foot meet and has complicated network of ligaments, tissues and bones. The entire weight of the body is to be borne by the ankle and hence it is subjected to frequent pain. The ankle pain can be inside or outside the ankle or in the muscles of lower legs. Orthotics is a substance that is specially designed to repair the biomechanics of the ankle and the foot junction and is usually inserted into the shoes. There may be cases in which the foot elongates which may result in stretching of tendons and tissues of the ankle inside. By wearing orthotics the growth of tendons are controlled and balanced. It also helps to re-align the limb by correcting the abnormal growth of tendons. It also helps in reducing the pressure of ankle joint, thereby preventing erosion of the cartilage tissues.
