MRSA Infection

October 26, 2012 by surekha Leave a Comment

MRSA infection is the abbreviated form of Methyicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus infection. This infection is caused by bacteria and strangely it occurs only in people who are in health care centers and hospitals. It typically develops during surgical process, placing an IV tube on the patients.

Another category of MRSA infection occurs in healthy people also and it usually starts on those who have a skin puncture or boil. It is contagious and spreads through skin contact.

Symptoms :

People infected with staph infection will have red bumps or lesions that looks like boils or insect bites. It will produce considerable pain and abscess inside. There are few cases, in which the bacteria causing infection will remain inside. The bacteria is potentially dangerous since they can penetrate deep into the skin infecting bones, joints and bloodstream.

Causes :

Staph bacteria are the main cause for MRSA infection. They are found on the skin almost on every human race but not all of them are harmful. When there is any cut or injury on the skin, they invade the skin and penetrate inside the bloodstream.

Actually antibiotics are taken for every disease and hence many of the viral infections do not respond to these medicines. The bacteria becomes resistant to these antibiotics and attack people indifferently.

Who are at risk ?

People who are wounded, who are hospitalized and those who are in medical tubing or Intravenous drip are more prone to MRSA than others. Similarly, people who live in unhygienic environment and those who have sex with same gender have risk of getting this infection.

Treatment :

Doctors will study the intensity of infection and drain the pus making incision for removing the abscess. Antibiotics are also given for treating this infection. However some forms of MRSA-CA are resistant to trimethoprim sulfamethoxazole.
