Tongue Piercing Infection

Some people pierce the tongue to wear a small tongue jewel for adding attraction. Since it is the most delicate area of the skin, and is always moist, tongue is prone to all sort of infection. The tongue piercing infection can be from mild to moderate giving out bad odor with swelling. There may be discharge of greenish yellow colored fluid from the area. Sometimes the area can develop pain and irritation depending on the severity of the inflammation. Pain and redness around the area of piercing is the first symptom of tongue piercing infection. If it gets severe there may bleeding on the infected part of the tongue.

Rinsing the mouth with lukewarm salt water can be effective in curing the infection. If the infection is formed as the result of plague due to stable food particles it can be removed by soft brushing techniques. Preventing the infection is the best possible remedy and you need to get the tongue piercing done with the best piercer in your area. Ensure that hygienic tools are used for piercing the tongue and the entire place is kept clean. It is better to treat the infection as early as possible since it can spread easily to other parts of the mouth. In case of infection, you should keep yourself away from engaging in oral sex and kissing which would make it worse. Do not touch the tongue with your hands since it may contain bacteria.

In case if the tongue infection does not get settled on home treatment, consult your doctor immediately for taking antibiotics.
